About PaySums
PaySums is a set of free calculators for people in the UK who want to check a figure for themselves: what a tax code means, what a pay rise is worth after tax, how much to put aside for Self Assessment, or what an estate might owe.
The site is run by owner name and UK location to be added.
What we try to do
- Show the working. Every result lists the bands, rates and thresholds it used, so you can check it against your payslip or HMRC letter.
- Use official sources. Rates come from GOV.UK, HMRC, the Scottish Government and NHS Employers, and each tool links to the page it relies on.
- Say what a tool doesn't cover. Where a calculation is simplified, the page says so.
How the site is paid for
The calculators are free. We plan to carry advertising, which will be clearly labelled and kept away from the inputs and results. We don't sell your data, and the numbers you type into a calculator stay in your browser.
Independence
PaySums isn't connected to HMRC, the NHS, the Student Loans Company or any other government body, and doesn't give regulated financial advice. For free guidance, MoneyHelper is backed by the government, and Pension Wise offers free appointments to people aged 50 and over with a defined contribution pension.
